RSS Feeds formats have evolved since March 1999. The RSS Feed Icon first gained widespread use between 2005 and 2006, read by Henry when he wanted to have an automatically updated content in his website without much effort. After researching on the web about the updated content, he was enlightened with the concept of RSS Feeds, where in it stands for "Really Simple Syndication”. He found out that RSS Feeds is a method whereby you can offer whatever content you put out on the web, and make it available to others to put on their website to reach more and more eyeballs.
He had learnt that, to do SEO for an RSS Feed, the following simple steps can be followed:
1. Relevant Title with keywords in it.
2. Display RSS Feeds.
3. Link Text must contain keywords.
4. Feed full path any internal or external link.
5. Include RSS Feed in My Yahoo and My MSN.
6. RSS Feeds should be themed.
7. Increase link popularity by submitting the RSS Feed.
8. RSS Feed Description, if something is important to readers.
9. Subscribe to your own RSS Feed.
10. Add your corporate logo to your RSS Feed.
11. List RSS Feeds alphabetically.
12. Put meaningful links.
13. Update RSS Feeds frequently.
14. Length of an RSS Feed matters, should contain number of related items.
15. Test and validate your RSS Feed to make sure that it is properly formed.
16. Offer an HTML version of your RSS Feed.
17. Provide email updates for the non-techies
18. Don't put tracking codes into the URLs (e.g. &source=rss)
19. An RSS Feed that contains enclosures (i.e. podcasts) can get into additional RSS directories & engines.
20. Optimize all aspects of the web RSS Feed.
21. Use RSS Feeds as an online marketing and search engine optimization tool.
22. RSS Feeds containing a favorite icon stand out from others in the directories.
23. Preserve a good RSS site with good page rank and email them requesting acceptance of the RSS Feed.
24. Key use of RSS Feed in SEO is to generate backlinks.
Henry finally realized that, for a good SEO, RSS Feed is not just to read or display content to other sites - it's a means of linking which appears to have been missed in the SEO industry.
