SEO Tips

SEO Tips that are to be taken care of while doing SEO for your website:

1. Keywords should your top most priority to start off with SEO. The best possible keywords should be found out and listed. For help, you can use the one of the best keyword tools like Google Adwords keyword tool or the Wordtracker keyword tool.

2. Keywords in important places like Domain Name, URL, Sub Domains, Titles, Headers and Sub-Sectional Headings and also Bolding them or changing the fonts or its sizes. This can impress both Search Engines as well as the Humans.

3. Keyword Density maintenance in the entire website for search engines to get your website indexed sooner.

4. Links to be analyzed whether incoming, outgoing, inbound or outbound. Discover your competitors through these links. Use your keywords even in your links.

5. Sitemap Page should be created in your website for the search engines or the users to locate your webpages. Sitemap of your website should act like a route map to a particular location. Sitemap Generator Tool can be used to create a Sitemap for your website.

6. Robots.txt file should be included in your website which is the easiest step of SEO. Robots.txt file when included at the root and uploaded to your website, informs the crawler or the spider that hits your website, “please feel free to crawl every page of my website". “Disallow: /folder_name/" or "Disallow: /filename.html" informs the spider or the crawler to disallow the unrelated files to be read by them.

7. XML Sitemap should be installed for Google so that Google understands which page to be viewed in what place.

8. Content of your website should be reviewed from time to time as people love fresh content.

9. Duplicate Content, Flash, Visual Extras, Frames, Podcasts, Videos, Image Links and Hidden Text are not allowed in SEO as search engines cannot read them.

10. HTML errors for your website should be checked from time to time.

SEO Checklist should be analyzed regularly and improvements may then be made on it for the better ranking position of your website. SEO tips does not guarantee your website to be the number one position in Google search results page, but this would certainly let your website’s ranking position go down if SEO has not been done to your website.

Google’s Second Searchology Event: 2009

Google’s second searchology event, 2009 is a welcoming news to all the search users, customers and partners of Google as they would be now using the search feature in a more easier and simpler way in order to extract the desired information. Two years back Google has launched Universal Search ( a feature displaying results of different types –web pages, images, videos, books, etc on the results page.), the first searchology event and it has grown quite a bit.

Google had figured out the exact problems of its users more closely and therefore more search options would be implemented. This set of features announced by Google is termed as Search Options. This Search Options solves the problem of a user’s very common query of “what to ask to get the desired information”. With Search Options you can search for the product’s name, apply the option to filter out anything.

Search Options Panel also helps in viewing results in newer ways. In one view only, you can view more information about each result, with images and text.

Google also worked on better understanding of any information that you get back from a search. For example, If you are searching for IMAX theatre to watch a 4D movie in your city, by querying in IMAX+city in Google Search, you get different IMAX theatres available in the city. Out of many IMAX theatres available in your city, how do you decide which theatre has the best features that you are looking for and where to go and watch the 4D movie comfortably?

To avoid all the above problems that any user faces, Google calls the set of information returning with a result a “Snippet” which is going to get richer. These “rich snippets” helps in extracting and showing more useful information web pages.

Referred to as “snippets,” the information samples that sit beneath Google search results are about to become more in-depth. These “rich snippets” will extract more and display more useful information from relevant Web pages in order to give the user a better sense of the content they’ll receive upon clicking.

Rich snippets could be a turning point for the Semantic Web, since, for the first time, they create a powerful economic motivation for semantic markup. Rich snippets significantly enhance click-through rates. It means that anyone who has been doing SEO is now going to have to add microformats and RDFa to their toolkit.

Yeah, it is difficult for Google alone to provide those snippets on their own and therefore they hope that web publishers would help them in adopting microformats or RDFa standards to mark up their HTML and bring this structured data to the surface. With the help of this, now people don’t have to spend more time in Google and instead they could be spending more time on their web page where there could locate their information.

Hope Google’s second searchology would give great relief to all the Google users, searching for their required information.

SEO RSS Feeds

RSS Feeds formats have evolved since March 1999. The RSS Feed Icon first gained widespread use between 2005 and 2006, read by Henry when he wanted to have an automatically updated content in his website without much effort. After researching on the web about the updated content, he was enlightened with the concept of RSS Feeds, where in it stands for "Really Simple Syndication”. He found out that RSS Feeds is a method whereby you can offer whatever content you put out on the web, and make it available to others to put on their website to reach more and more eyeballs.

He had learnt that, to do SEO for an RSS Feed, the following simple steps can be followed:

1. Relevant Title with keywords in it.
2. Display RSS Feeds.
3. Link Text must contain keywords.
4. Feed full path any internal or external link.
5. Include RSS Feed in My Yahoo and My MSN.
6. RSS Feeds should be themed.
7. Increase link popularity by submitting the RSS Feed.
8. RSS Feed Description, if something is important to readers.
9. Subscribe to your own RSS Feed.
10. Add your corporate logo to your RSS Feed.
11. List RSS Feeds alphabetically.
12. Put meaningful links.
13. Update RSS Feeds frequently.
14. Length of an RSS Feed matters, should contain number of related items.
15. Test and validate your RSS Feed to make sure that it is properly formed.
16. Offer an HTML version of your RSS Feed.
17. Provide email updates for the non-techies
18. Don't put tracking codes into the URLs (e.g. &source=rss)
19. An RSS Feed that contains enclosures (i.e. podcasts) can get into additional RSS directories & engines.
20. Optimize all aspects of the web RSS Feed.
21. Use RSS Feeds as an online marketing and search engine optimization tool.
22. RSS Feeds containing a favorite icon stand out from others in the directories.
23. Preserve a good RSS site with good page rank and email them requesting acceptance of the RSS Feed.
24. Key use of RSS Feed in SEO is to generate backlinks.

Henry finally realized that, for a good SEO, RSS Feed is not just to read or display content to other sites - it's a means of linking which appears to have been missed in the SEO industry.

Web 3.0 –Third Decade of the Web (2010-2020)

Web 3.0 is a phrase coined by John Markoff of the New York Times in 2006. It consists of innumerable number of features like Personal Desktop, Remote Control, 4G, Semantic Web, Smarter Hardware, Surface PC, Internet Radio, and so on.

Henry’s Boss had followed all types of online marketing methods (SEO 1.0 for Web 1.0 and SEO 2.0 for Web 2.0) for bringing huge traffic to his website, suggested by Henry. Due to huge competition even in Web 2.0, the third decade of the Web (Web 3.0) has emerged and Henry wanted to implement even this new technological change.

Therefore, before implementing it, he researched about Web 3.0 in depth. The findings of his research were:

Web 1.0 was "read-only", Web 2.0 is "read-write", and Web 3.0 will be "read-write-execute and is als ocalled the "Internet of Services".

Web 3.0 follows the bottom-up approach and its first step is towards the emergence of "The Data Web" as structured data records are published to the Web in reusable and remotely queryable formats, such as XML, RDF, Website Parse Template and microformats.
Website parse templates will be used by Web 3.0 crawlers to get more precise information about web sites' structured content.

Web 3.0 is heading twards the 3 dimensional vision championed by the Web3D Consortium. It transforms web into a series of 3D spaces, taking the concept realised by Second Life further.
Web 3.0 should be a relief to many who are thoroughly fed up with the use of the term “Web 2.0” as it is -

1. Easier, cheaper, and more pervasive.
2. Always on, everywhere.
3. Controls our data

This vision of Web 3.0, your data moving with you and knowing where you are would mean for SEO, that SEO and web site design can be brought even more closer together. You need to always keep track of what kinds of devices your visitors would be using to view your information. If need arises, you might even have to build different sites for different devices.

Henry informed his boss about his research findings. His boss read the research findings of Web 3.0 and came to a conclusion that-

“In this kind of world, the basics of SEO would still be important (focusing the content, having lots of content, having lots of FRESH content, and making sure it’s useful). It may be even more important, because search agents will understand every word you write, in context and also understand every word your reviewers and consumers write too.

After all, the social aspects, interaction, and involvement that characterized Web 2.0 are not going to wash away with Web 3.0.”

SEO 1.0 and SEO 2.0

SEO 1.0 has the following features:

SEO 1.0 is for Web 1.0.

SEO 1.0 emphasizes on unnatural link building, where in the process is critical as it is manually done by adding links, submitting sites to directories , link exchanges, also paying for links.

It concentrates on Onsite optimization for crawlers ( concentration on keywords and repetitive page titles).

SEO 1.0 is all about on page optimization.

To be on top of Google’s 1st page for top 10 keywords as target is the main objective of SEO 1.0.(competition)

This follows barter system – I link to you on the condition that you link back to me.

In SEO 1.0, inbound links are limited to connecting with home page only and relies on that homepage navigational links to connect to the interior pages.

SEO 1.0 hides about clients list.

This is about keywords.

SEO 1.0 optimizes for links.

It is all about clicks, page views and visits.

In SEO 1.0, sites are submitted to DMOZ directory.

In SEO 1.0, the main traffic sources are from Google, Yahoo and MSN.

It is only one way communication in SEO 1.0.

SEO 1.0 follows a top down approach.

SEO 1.0 is undemocratic, who ever pays most is on top.

It is technocratic.

SEO 1.0 depends on quantity.

SEO 1.0 alone is yesterday’s technology for today’s failure.

SEO 2.0 has the following features:

SEO 2.0 is or Web2.0.

SEO 2.0 emphasizes on getting links naturally through blogging, writing articles, creating link bait and socializing.

It concentrates on users for on site optimization (attractive post titles).

SEO 2.0 is all about off page optimization.

To link to fellow bloggers, submit them to social media or vote for them is the main objective of SEO 2.0. (Cooperation)

This only gives and does not expect anything back in return – I link to you whether you link back or not. But in most cases you will link more than once.

In SEO 2.0, inbound links are linked to all the pages on the website and establishes links from the interior pages to the homepage.

SEO 2.0 is open and is proud to show new client.

This is about tags.

SEO 2.0 optimizes for traffic.

It is all about conversions, ROI and branding.

SEO 2.0 uses del.icio.us, social bookmarking site.

In SEO 2.0, the main traffic sources are from StumbleUpon, Niche social news sites and Blogs.

It is a conversation, a dialogue in SEO 2.0.

SEO 2.0 follows a bottom up approach.

SEO 2.0 is democratic, who ever responds to popular demand is on top.

It is emotional.

SEO 2.0 depends on quality.

SEO 2.0 is today’s technology for tomorrow’s success.

Still most companies are following SEO 1.0 approach as they believe this to be true. But SEO 2.0 when tactically followed by the companies, gives much higher percentage of ROI and also networks your corporate branding throughout the internet and saturates that particular area that you want to target.

SEO-GEO Targeting

SEO-GEO Targeting is a very new concept nowadays and a simplest form of optimization available today. GEO Targeting pays much attention to the local guys who were being overlooked by the SEO Industry.

SEO is expanding the way it is targeting the people.

GEO Targeting means targeting a smaller market segment divided by geography. This could be country specific or it could be regional or based on town, village or famous local attraction. In SEO-GEO Targeting, you can rank your website well in search engine result pages of a particular country that your business targets.

You can follow the following SEO-GEO Targeting methods for your website:

1. Country Targeted Domain Name/TLD

2. Server Location/Local Hosting

3. Local Business Address/Street Address

4. Local Language

5. Inbound Link Location/Local Link

6. Google’s Local Traffic

7. Google Webmaster Tools (Set Geographic Target)

8. User Behaviour

Since SEO is a numbers game and the website that uses Geo-targeting vastly improves their odds of success, having less competition offers you the opportunity to reach high search rankings, if you optimize your web site. When we apply Geo-targeting in the SEO process, we are asking the search engines to index your website by a geographic area and by your products or services.

Besides the general web design and SEO principles that have proven to work well in bringing search traffic, a few tips for GEO-targeting SEO will increase the chance of success for businesses that promote their businesses online across regions of different culture background.

1. SEO-GEO-Targeting Design

People from India like Indian traditional web designs. In SEO-GEO Targeting, instead of standard web designs different local guys like different web designs according to their own personal likes and dislikes .For example, in geo targeting, musicians like musical instruments to be displayed in the background of his website.

2. SEO-GEO-Targeting Promotion

Geo Targeting helps users in what users are looking for and where they come from(location). In fact, major search engines Google, Yahoo Search!, and Microsoft’s Live search all have a different version of the main search engine for either major language or a country. If you’re not located in the GEO market you target, work with a local SEO firm is productive and rewarding.

3. SEO-GEO-Targeting Analysis

SEO-GEO-targeting doesn’t end at SEO-targeting promotion. To fully understand visitor behaviors of each GEO market, try using geographic Meta data for accurate results. Web analytic software and IP databases are there to provide a range of locations for specific requirement when a version of a web site or advertisements need to reach only a specific city within the states.

SEO GEO Targeting is a lot like Pay Per Click GEO Targeting. It is the process of aligning a site (or part of a site) to a target audience of a specific country.

Web 2.0 is SEO Geo Targeting and Web1.0 is SEO World Wide Web (WWW) Targeting.
